Today is a very special day. It’s my kitten’s first birthday. Six months ago I went to the New York City’s Animal Care and Control aka the Pound and found a cute grey and white bundle of energy. I named her Bounce due to her enthusiasm for leaping over and onto items in my apartment.
My apartment in only 450 square feet so I work hard to keep her entertained. We spend roughly 90 minutes a day doing very active playtime. My reward for encouraging her to run around so much is an uninterrupted night of sleep. Until she wants breakfast…
Now that she’s one year old, in theory, her energy level should mellow out somewhat. I’ve got my fingers crossed. Not that I don’t enjoy our playtime but a little less would be ok too.
There’s a great book, Feed Your Pet Right, which is a balanced take on feeding your pet. The authors analyze all the popular pet diets and teach you how to read and understand pet food ingredient labels. There’s a lot of marketing and hype coming from the pet food industry but not much balanced scientifically backed information so I found the book very helpful.
